Delta Phi Epsilon

Gamma Sigma Chapter at Tarleton State University

Founded in 1917

Esse Quam Videri

National History

On March 17, 1917, five courageous women attending New York University School of Law could not find a membership accepting of all backgrounds. So they formed Delta Phi Epsilon with the purpose of accepting all races and religions–one of the first  non-sectarian, social sororities to do so. Founded on the principles of Justice, Sisterhood, & Love, Sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon base their actions on the sorority's motto, Esse Quam Videri: to be rather than to seem to be. Delta Phi Epsilon has worked to develop a social conscience and a willingness to think in terms of the common good in order to assure for its members continuous development and achievement in the collegiate and fraternity world. With a continuing philosphy of faith in the inherent good judgement of the undergraduate membership, Delta Phi Epsilon has remained steadfast throughout its history, forward to the continued growth of a sisterhood which keeps pace with the ever changing nature of the collegiate world.

The Gamma Sigma chapter at Tarleton State University was first colonized on April 13, 2013. The first class of members included 59 girls who are known are founders, alongside with a National Representative that held interests meetings the semester prior and helped these ladies along the way leading up to the chapter initiation. While we have only been on a campus four years, we have already had a growing lists of accomplishments both chapter wise and individual sisters who have showed leadership on campus.

President's Message

Mission Statement

To promote a band of sisterhood and friendship that will remain for years after our college experience. The diversity and individuality amongst our members allows us to appreciate a variety of different cultures. Through community service events, sisterhood events, fund-raisers, and socials we make our college experience an unforgettable one.

Being a member of Delta Phi Epsilon means holding true to our values of justice, sisterhood and love. Since these values are so important to Delta Phi Epsilon, we are able to cultivate a membership full of leaders, mentors, and philanthropist. The sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon are also helpful, encouraging, truthful, empowering, fun, unique, women. I am blessed to be able to call myself the President of such an amazing sorority filled with such great women.

Philanthropy

The sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon strive to make a difference by serving our campus and community. We work hard every semester to raise money for our philanthropies. Delta Phi Epsilon supports our three national philanthropies: The Delta Phi Epsilon Scholarship Foundation, ANAD, and The National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation as well as one local philanthropy we recently adopted: Multiple Sclerosis in honor of one of our own sisters Elsa. In addition to our philanthropies, it is highly encouraged for the sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon to participate in community service outside of the sorority as well.

ANAD helps raise awareness and prevent eating disorders. Delta Phi Epsilon is the first National Sorority to pledge their regular support to ANAD.  Each year we host a week long event, "ANAD Week"- a week full of events and activities that raise awareness and money for eating disorders

Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Seeks to find a cure and control cystic fibrosis, and improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Every year, Delta Phi Epsilon hosts "Deepher Dude" to raise money and awareness for the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. Deepher Dude is a male beauty pageant, which consists of a talent and question portion. At this event, all proceeds are donated to the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation.

The Pearl Program is based on the 5 S's- Sisterhood, Scholarship, Self, Service, and Social, it was designed with the purpose of actively engaging sisters in each of these five areas.

Delta Phi Epsilon Education Foundation

Sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon raise money to provide grants and loans to assist members and their daughters or sons to complete their education or continue with graduate studies.

Multiple Sclerosis

The Gamma Sigma Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon has recently adopted a new philanthropy in honor of one of our own sisters, Elsa Johntson who has Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. We have committed to raise awareness and money for research and any amount raised will be donated under Elsa's name. Each October, we host our Boo-Sketti dinner for MS. Contact a Deepher for more information!
